About ICD

Background

The city of Daejeon is located about 2 hours driving south-west of the capital Seoul, with a population of about 1.2 Million residents. The Muslim community in Daejeon is comprised of people who are mainly graduate students, researcher and scientists who come from different Muslim countries to join Daejeon's various universities and research institutes. There are also a few Muslim laborers living within the limits of the city.

By the help of Allah (swt) and the efforts of Daejeon's tiny Muslim community have succeeded in establishing the Islamic Center in December of 2006 with the goal of serving Islam and the Muslim community in Daejeon. The first group prayer at ICD was held on Friday 29 December 2006, and was followed the next day by the Eid prayer of Eid-ul-fitr.

For further information about the Muslim community in Daejeon and the historical background of establishing ICD, please refer to the "Background on the Muslim Community in Daejeon and ICD" appendix.

Mission

Through the ICD, the Muslim community in Daejeon seeks the help of Allah (swt) in achieving the following three objectives

Worship:

The mosalla is the heart of the ICD, and it is in essence a house of Allah. Therefore, the first objective of ICD is to uphold prayer. Praise be to Allah, the mossala has been prepared to uphold regular daily prayers as well as juma prayers and occasional prayers such as eid prayers and Ramadan tarawih. The mosalla is also available for other worship activities such as e'tikaf and Quran recitation.

Dawa:

ICD performs various dawa activities to introduce Islam to non-Muslims and to correct any misconceptions they might have about Islam. Of course, ICD also performs internal dawa to strengthen the community member's attachment to their religion and strengthen their faith.

Community Affairs:

ICD is the central link between members of the Muslim community. At the ICD mossalla they meet and participate in social activities which reinforce the brotherly relationship among them and help them overcome life's difficulties. Moreover, as there is no Halal food outlet in Daejeon, ICD provides Halal food on a self-service non-commercial basis, only to the members of Muslim Community in Daejeon.

Finance

The sole financial source for ICD is donations from members of Daejeon's Muslim community and from people of good well who are interested in promoting ICD's mission. The bank account for ICD has been opened by the Federally Registered, Islamic Charity Organization "Al-Huda Islamic Center" which has and still is providing great support to ICD at various levels.

ICD's financial resources are dedicated to one aim only and that is the covering of expenses of its various activities held by ICD to fulfill its objectives as indicated above. ICD management abides by all laws and regulations of the local authorities part and parcel, and follows a transparency policy in regard to the financial records of ICD.

Additionally, the group of volunteers at ICD have started a drive to collect donations for buying a building to establish the first permanent masjid in Daejeon.

Management

ICD's management team is a community-based volunteer team from the Muslim community. The community has set for this team a clear structure, defined roles, and a set of guiding principles which are to be observed in all circumstances.

ICD's management is composed of a number of committees. Each committee has a head and the heads of committees form the management Council which is headed by the Chairperson. In brief, ICD management is to plan and manage ICD's activities and resources in a way that will achieve its objectives as defined in the mission above.

Each committee prepares an annual plan for the set of activities it plans to organize throughout the year. Members of the committee perform those activities by themselves and with help from other members of the community. The Council manages the allocation of resources to committee activities and coordinates among them when necessary. The Council and the different committees hold regular and ad-hoc meetings to organize their activities.

For more information about the Management of ICD please refer to the "Establishment and Management of ICD" appendix.
